About the Library

Getting a Library Card

Please bring identification with your name and social security number when applying for a library card. A parent or guardian must sign for children under age 18. The parent or guardian signing accepts responsibility for fines, damage, or loss of materials.  For your convenience, library cards are available in either regular size or key card size.

Internet Access

The Internet, word processing software, and educational software are available at the library workstations. In order to use the Internet, patrons must complete an Internet Access/Acceptable Use Form. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for children under age 18.

Lending Policies

Your library card or a form of photo identification must be presented each time materials are checked out. There is no limit to the number of materials that may be checked out at one time. Library loan periods are:

Books, CDs, CD-ROMs, Audio Books, and Non-Fiction Videos  28 days

Video Cassettes, DVDs, and Magazines  7 days

Loan periods may be renewed unless a reserve has been placed on the item. All  items are limited to two (2) renewals.

Renewing Materials

Most materials may be renewed unless a reserve has been placed on the item. You may renew materials by telephone or by using the library's on-line catalog "Hip" . Remember to have your library card ready--you will need the numbers located under the barcode on the back along with your PIN number (the last four digits of your phone number).

Returning Materials

All materials borrowed from the library must be returned. Items can be returned at any of the seven Perry County District Library locations (see Branches), no matter where the materials were checked out. All locations have return drops both inside and outside. The outside drops are available at all times for the convenience of returning items after regular business hours. *Please note that there are items (designated by a sticker) that are not to be returned via a book drop. These items, which include compact discs, audio books, CD-ROMs, and DVDs, must be returned to a staff member at the check-out desk.

If an item is returned after its designated loan period, a fine will be placed on the patron's library record. Patrons are responsible for payment of fines.

Reserving Materials

All library materials may be placed on reserve. Patrons are notified when the materials become available. The materials requested must be picked up within nine business days, with the exception of video tapes which must be picked up within 24 hours of notification
